Ambulatory treatment

Maybe you do not need 24-hour or part-time treatment and you might only need a weekly counseling session with a psychologist. These ambulatory sessions take place at De Hoop's intake office. They are either weekly group sessions and/or individual sessions. Ambulatory treatment is of a clear Christian nature. De Hoop offers two kinds of ambulatory treatment:

  • Treatment offered by Alcohol & Work
  • Treatment within the anorexia and bulimia groups

Alcohol & Work
With the Alcohol & Work project, De Hoop aims at tackling alcohol problems in the workplace. Alcohol & Work also offers ambulatory treatment. If you cannot follow treatment during the day, it is also possible for you to follow treatment in the evening. For more information, please go to the paragraph 'Alcohol & Work'.

Treatment
Treatment aims at several aspects and the duration of treatment can vary from person to person. The content of your treatment contract depends on:
  • Your motivation to change
  • The severity of your addiction
  • Your wish to change your drinking behavior or other behavioral patterns
Treatment consists of individual sessions. You can also follow training sessions in social skills and relational sessions.

Goals
Treatment is aimed at realizing desired behavioral changes, as you have agreed upon with your care worker. Desired changes could include:
  • Decreasing or completely discontinuing alcohol use
  • Preventing relapse in undesired drinking behavior
  • Improving psychological and/or social functioning
  • Maintaining or improving work activities

Anorexia and bulimia groups
If you struggle with anorexia or bulimia, you can follow ambulatory group treatment. There are weekly treatment sessions at the intake bureau under the supervision of a psychologist or psychotherapist.

Therapy
Group therapy is supervised by two psychologists/psychiatrists and consists of fifteen weekly sessions of two hours each. It is possible to extend group therapy with ten more sessions. Sessions take place during the day. The maximum number of participants is eight. We have seperate female and male groups. Working in groups has the advantage that you can relate to each other and can motivate each other to change your lives. During therapy, you will also have a number of individual sessions.

Goals
The main goal of treatment is that you will work at processes of change in your personal life that will lead to a new and restored balance.

Finances
Ambulatory treatment is partly financed through the Netherlands Exceptional Medical Expenses Act. Clients undergoing psychotherapy have to pay a contribution per treatment session. This also applies to clients participating in the anorexia and bulimia groups. The Alcohol & Work project is fully financed through the Netherlands Exceptional Medical Expenses Act.

Criterions
You are eligible for ambulatory treatment when you:
  • Have received a referral from your general practitioner
  • Are registered with the Dutch health insurance fund
  • Are willing to discontinue the use of addictive substances
  • Are willing to follow treatment based on Christian principles (this does not apply to ambulatory treatment of alcohol addiction through the Alcohol & Work project)
