Weed

What is it?
Weed is more commonly called marihuana. It is extracted from the hemp plant, also called cannabis sativa. Weed consists of the dried tops of the plant and usually has a green colour. You can smoke weed, which is called blowing.

What are the effects of using weed?
In general, the use of soft drugs enhances the user's mood. This means that you can become more cheerful (fits of laughter) but also depressed or anxious if you are restless before use. People who use cannabis often want to experience a relaxed feeling and intense sensorial perceptions. In other words, they want to get ‘stoned'. Often, users can only focus on one thing and become light-headed. Your eyes become red, your heart rate increases and your legs feel heavy. Your physical resistance decreases as does your memory. You also run a higher risk of developing psychiatric conditions.

THC
THC (delta-9-tetrahydrocannabinol) is the main active ingredient in weed. The higher the THC-percentage, the more intense its effect on body and mind. The more intense your use, the higher your risk of developing physical habituation. This means that you will develop withdrawal symptoms if you stop blowing.

Psychological dependence
You can also become psychologically dependent on weed. It seems like you can forget your problems. You run the risk of only being able to deal with your problems by blowing. Someone who has a really low self-esteem and is anxious can become paranoid due to blowing. Sadness can change into depression. Smoking weed is very toxic to the lungs.
