Biblical guidelines for alcohol use
The Bible mentions a few guidelines concerning alcohol use. People are called to, for example:
'Love your neighbour as yourself' (Matthew 22:39) You have to realize that alcohol use influences the way you function and, therefore, also your environment. It is a fact that alcohol use can increase aggression and cause accidents. You could also take responsibility for people who have drank too much alcohol. For example, you can make sure someone who has had too much to drink gets home safely.
To not let yourself be mastered by anything (1 Corinthians 6:12) Therefore, you should control your alcohol use and make sure you will not become addicted to alcohol.
Take good care of your body because it is a temple of the Holy Spirit (1 Corinthians 6:19) It is wrong to drink alcohol to such a degree that it becomes harmful to your body.
As far as food and drink are concerned, to pay attention to the sensitivities of people you are together with (Romans 14:21) If you see that one of those people drinks too much alcohol, you should help him not to drink too much. For example, you could drink a small amount of alcohol or no alcohol at all when you are together with him/her. You should also drink no wine when you are together with people that reject alcohol use.
