About De Hoop

De Hoop and Romania

At the end of September 2004, De Hoop Foundation and the Romanian government entered into a co-operation agreement. This caused De Hoop to become intimately involved with setting up and expanding addiction care in Romania.

History
For years, De Hoop has been involved in Romania. Since 1990, two-week work projects in Romania have been part of De Hoop's treatment program. Over the years, De Hoop has made contact with and supported many organizations involved in the care for addicts in Romania. Since 2002, an employee from De Hoop has been giving courses in the area of addiction and counseling.

Education and training
Throughout Romania, the Agentia Nationala Antidrog (ANA, Romanian National Anti-Drug Agency) wishes to create centers set up according to the De Hoop model. De Hoop will give training courses in the area of addiction care. These courses are part of an official educational basic course. This course will train students to become ‘social workers for persons with problems of addiction'.

Furthermore, employees from De Hoop will teach prevention and treatment of drug use at the University of Bucharest as external specialists. Students having completed this study will have a master's degree (MA).

De Hoop will also be involved in the development of written material supporting the above-mentioned activities. On a frequent basis, Romanians will come to De Hoop to receive additional training. This is necessary because they have insufficient practical experience in working with addicts.
