De Kajuit: clinic for young addicts
De Hoop is expecting to open its clinic for young addicts De Kajuit ('The Cabin') in the beginning of 2009. De Kajuit offers care to younger people aged 12 until 23 with serious problems in the field of addiction and substance abuse. Goal Treatment at De Kajuit is aimed at helping young people gain an insight into the causes of their addiction. At De Kajuit, young people learn how to live a life free of addiction, without the use of addictive substances.
View De Kajuit offers treatment from a Christian view on man and a Christian view on psychological and psychiatric problems. This Christian view is derived from De Hoop's main mission: helping people on their way to a new life.
Being or becoming a Christian is no condition for treatment at De Kajuit. We do, however, want the Christian identity of the clinic and the treatment program to be treated with respect.
Mission It is De Kajuit's mission to help young people aged 12-23 face the causes of their addiction. De Kajuit wants to help young people break with addiction.
Eligibility Admission to De Kajuit is eligible for children: - Who use chemical substances (drugs, alcohol, medications) excessively
- Who have a gambling problem
- Who game compulsively
- Who surf the Internet compulsively
De Hoop will refer young people to another program in case of:
- A double diagnosis
- PDD-NOS or Asperger's
- An IQ of <84 (relative counter indication)
- A physical handicap (relative)
- A lack of conscience
- A behavioral disorder
- Antisocial behavior
- Delinquency
- A sensory handicap (relative)
- The absence of a place of abode
- An aversion against the program's Christian identity
- A BMI of <16
- Anorexia Nervosa
NB: Young couples cannot be admitted together Treatment program Twelve-step program De Kajuit uses a twelve-step program geared toward young people, applying the Twelve Steps of the Alcoholics Anonymous. The treatment program is aimed at abstinence. Treatment is intramural, which means that round-the-clock care is offered. Aftercare is offered as well. Treatment Treatment consists of several components, including:
- Milieu therapy (group life)
- Individual art therapy and counseling sessions
- Training sessions
- Sports
- Religious activities
Duration Six weeks in principle (extension is possible, but only if necessary).
Moving on From De Kajuit, it is possible to move on to:
- De Hoop's therapeutic centers
- Part-time treatment at De Hoop (two or three days)
- Aftercare groups
Applying for treatment De Hoop will be opening an outpatient clinic for young addicts soon. Here, people should apply for treatment at De Kajuit
Role of referring parties Referring parties may do the following while putting forward and monitoring clients: - Providing official referral letters
- Providing preliminary care
- Motivating clients
- Providing interim care (during waiting period)
- Collaborating in aftercare
Information for parents of admitted clients Designated parent counselors keep parents informed about their children's treatment. Support of parents and family members Parents of clients admitted at De Kajuit, will follow a one-week parenting course. Parents may also receive parent counseling. Visiting arrangements Clients of De Kiel may receive parents and other family members during weekends, but by appointment only.
Items to bring along Before admission, clients will receive a letter mentioning the things they need to bring along for their stay at De Hoop. Most important are items necessary for daily care as well as clothes.
Compulsory education
- Education is compulsory for children until they turn 18
- De Hoop makes sure that cluster IV education is possible, or makes a request to be exempted from compulsory education
- Education is also part of the client's treatment program
Finances Treatment at De Hoop is paid for by the client's health insurance company.
What else is asked of clients? We also demand the following from our clients:
- Referral letter from GP or health care organization
- Motivation
