Supervised Lodging

At the Supervised Lodging Project (SLP), clients learn to practice what they have learned at De Hoop or elsewhere. Clients receive no therapeutic treatment. Clients at SLP run their own household. Each SLP accommodation is equipped with a bed, closet, couch, table, lamps and chairs. The kitchen, shower and toilet are shared. In the kitchen, a fridge, gas stove and some kitchen utensils are present. SLP is mainly used by clients who do not have enough financial means to buy their own inventory on the moment they want to start supervised independent living.

Aim
The aim of SLP is for clients to start living independently and to develop a better and healthier life style.

View
De Hoop offers treatment from a Christian view on man and a Christian view on addiction and addictive substances. This Christian view is derived from De Hoop's main mission: helping people on their way to a new life.

Eligibility
People are eligible for SLP if they:

  • Are able to run a household independently and to take responsibility
  • Are able to postpone a request for help until a counseling session is held.

De Hoop will refer people to another program if they:

  • Use addictive substances or gamble
  • Have an aversion against De Hoop's Christian identity.

Program contents
The SLP program consists of several components, including:

  • Individual counseling sessions - clients have personal talks with their counselors about personal treatment issues and about the future
  • Accountability groups - clients hold each other accountable for their actions group wise
  • Work experience and/or study - clients must spend their weekdays in a useful way, for at least 32 hours per week, either through studying, paid work or voluntary work.

Occasionally, the presence of forbidden substances is checked. Corporation is obligatory. If clients refuse to donate a urine sample, a sweat test may be carried out. A sweat test costs €39.95 (plus postage) and must be paid for by the client.

Duration
Maximum stay at the houses of SLP is one year. Extensions are awarded only if necessary and if new counseling plans are present.

Applying for SLP
Clients may apply for supervised lodging through contacting De Hoop's outpatient clinic: +31 (0)78 6 111 211 or polikliniek@dehoop.org.

Role of referring parties
Referring parties may do the following while putting forward and monitoring clients:

  • Providing official referral letters
  • Providing preliminary care
  • Motivating clients
  • Providing interim care (during waiting period)
  • Collaborating in aftercare

Parents/caregivers and/or partners
Parents/caregivers will only receive information about SLP clients if the client concerned gives permission to do so. Parents/caregivers and/or partners may receive help themselves at De Hoop's department of parent/partner work.

Location
The SLP accommodations are located at the Spuiweg location, in the center of Dordrecht near the main railway station.

Visiting arrangements
SLP residents may receive visitors. Visitors must obey the same rules as clients while visiting the premises of De Hoop or the SLP apartments. Clients must inform their counselors in advance in case visitors want to stay overnight.

Finances
Clients of SLP rent their houses from Haaswijk Foundation, a foundation collaborating with De Hoop. Clients may be entitled to an income-related government allowance for renting costs. Clients must pay a deposit upon admission, which will be paid back when clients leave the accommodation and counseling plans have ended. Condition for refunding is that the accommodation is clean and final payments concerning energy bills have been made.

Work experience and study
SLP clients may gain work experience at one of De Hoop's businesses. They may also work or study outside of De Hoop.

Co-admission of children
Co-admission of children is possible.
