Refaja (Rotterdam)

Origin
Refaja was established in 2005 as part of De Hoop Foundation. Because many of De Hoop's clients are from Rotterdam (ten to twenty percent), the decision was made to establish a Christian addiction care facility in Rotterdam. The idea was to bring care to people instead of the other way round. Refaja helped its first clients in August of 2006.

Christian identity
Refaja offers Christian care. Refaja means ‘The Lord Heals.' The care offered by Refaja is based on Christian, biblical principles. One of those principles is: Each human being is precious. People are not meant to become addicted or get stuck. We believe that healing and recovery are possible for everyone. The employees of Refaja are Christians and their work is based on Christian principles. People requesting help do not have to be Christians per se. Everybody is welcome. We do, however, want the Christian identity of Refaja and the employees of Refaja to be treated with respect.

Zuidplein
The building in which Rafaja has its domicile is located across the Zuidplein shopping mall in Rotterdam, nearby the Zuidplein metro and bus station. Therefore, Refaja can easily be reached.

Care offer
Refaja offers both ambulatory treatment and part-time treatment. At Refaja, intake sessions for treatment at De Hoop are held too. Refaja acts as an outpatient clinic of De Hoop.

Part-time treatment
Refaja's part-time treatment is intended for people with substance abuse problems. This could be an addiction to alcohol or illicit drugs, but also to gambling, the Internet or prescribed drugs. People with eating disorders (anorexia or bulimia nervosa) may apply for part-time treatment too. Part-time treatment implies that no admission takes place. Clients must have their own housing. It is important that clients have the strength to stay clean independently and that they have a social network. Part-time treatment takes place in a group setting. Groups consist of no more than eight persons. Part-time treatment may take place during two or three days. The two-day version takes place on Monday and Friday, the three-day version on Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday, from 9.00 am to 4.00 pm. The program consists of group therapy, relational therapy, psychotherapy and training sessions.

Ambulatory treatment
People with substance abuse or psychosocial problems who do not need 24-hour care, might be eligible for ambulatory treatment at Refaja. Individual counselors are designated to all clients in order to help them deal with their problems. Sometimes, only a few sessions are necessary, but it is also possible that a more intensive treatment is necessary.

Intake for De Hoop
At Refaja, it is also possible to do an intake for treatment at De Hoop in Dordrecht. De Hoop has an extensive care offer for people who have substance abuse problems or other problems. At De Hoop, 24-hour care is possible, amongst other things. Refaja can provide more information about treatment at De Hoop. Clients who wish to be treated at Refaja need a referral letter from their GP and health insurance.

Intake session
After clients have applied for help at Refaja, an intake session will be held. During the intake session, an inventory of problems is made and clients may tell what kind of help they need. Together, it is decided whether or not Refaja is the right place for help. If so, clients will be told which procedure is followed. There might be a waiting list.

Applications can be made by calling +31 (0)10 4 104 330 or through visiting our facility at the Strevelsweg, near Zuidplein. For more information about Refaja or how to apply for treatment, contact us on weekdays from 9.00 am to 5.00 pm or pass by. We are glad to help.
