David Partington, General Secretary of ISAAC

God's heart for people with addiction problems. That is the subject David Partington, General Secretary of ISAAC, spoke about on the 2007 ISAAC Conference. God summons churches worldwide to reach out to broken people. No matter how broken someone is, the resurrection power of the gospel can work in everybody's life.

Being the General Secretary of ISAAC, David is mainly busy with keeping up contacts around the world. ‘Of course, my job brings along many administrative matters, but most important to me are the relationships I have with the special people that are involved in ISAAC. I want to depend on God in everything I do.'

David Partington brought an important message during the conference. ‘God's heart goes out to people stuck in addiction. The message of hope that can be heard in the gospel is especially meant for those people. God wants to bring life to them through the power of the resurrection of Jesus. The worldwide church needs to take a stand in order to be able to reach people with this message.' In his speech, David also wanted to point out to the conference visitors the danger of money. ‘Because this ministry depends on donations, it can be very tempting to compromise if we want to raise funds. The danger exists that we weaken our message so we can please sponsors.' David calls upon us to be dependent - financially as well - on God.

The past ten years, David was most touched by the sacrificial nature of Christians involved in this ministry. ‘The people I see working are prepared to sacrifice themselves. Despite the limited means they have, the quality of the projects I have seen is often excellent. When people acknowledge their weakness and inability, God will be able to work best and His power becomes visible. The more you depend on God, the more evidence you see of the Spirit.'

David was looking forward to what the conference would bring. His expectations were high. ‘I am so excited about what God is doing at De Hoop Village. The mercy of God is reflected in the sheer professionalism of the people at De Hoop. It is great that God uses this location to bring together people from all over the world so they can build relationships. God wants to increase their understanding of His plan for worldwide addiction care. I am looking forward to what Gods Spirit will bring about during the conference.'
